I intend blogging a little bit about Jesus and his terse, witty and insightful sermons mostly in the form of parables, before proceeding to the main topic. One thing is very evident about the poor responses to such posts. Either people avoid reading controversial and out-of-the-box posts or there probably aren't that many bloggers who care about their "this" life (not the pleasurable "get a life dude" or "life of the party"), let alone the "after" life. It surprises me that not many even want to ask themselves simple questions like "Where did I come from?" or "Where will I go after I am dead?", but rest content with "Where do you want to go today? :)" or "Do I even care? Ya know what I'm sayin, haan?". Good for them and God Bless.

As confessed before, I am a Hindu writing about Christ. So I know I have to tread carefully not to let some passer-by self-serving, rich and pompous Reverend of some XYZ ministry enlist me in Satan's ranks and give a link to this blog under his "la despicables". There is so much exciting stuff to write about that one man-god, which I will carry to the Bodhimaram on behalf of my father (the earthly one). I will just quote one of his many sayings that particularly impressed me. I was seeing an evangelistic film on Jesus in one of them religious channels. When asked about God's Heavenly Kingdom, he says succinctly that you cannot see it or hear it or point to some place and say "There it is". He says that Kingdom will be established in a believer's heart. I am asking the many who are selling their wares about a puritanic kingdom being established physically in some location on earth with just a handful of israelites and/or gentiles, whether they are being true in their interpretation of the Holy Scripture or are they leading the blind to the dark pit? He retorts to a pharsee's remark on his association with outcastes of the society saying "Why do I need to bring the message of repentence to the already righteous?". By those standards then, only the low-life scumbags of our society are dearer to Christ - the ones that are caught in the web of pornography (lust) and hoarding (greed).

Origin of life, some thoughts

It has been a hectic two weeks of work + travel to Maryland, a gruelling 18 hours by road to and fro. I had completed this article a week back but had no time to revise it before I posted it. Have to warn you it is somewhat controversial for some of you, but I am just expressing my point of view on this subject. You are most welcome to democratically differ with my views.

In trying to desperately live up to my promise to write about what I love to call as Astronthropology (I had called it Anthropo-Astrology earlier, but it only seems fair to rename it), I have taken a few liberties. Why call it Astronthropology, an apology of a name? Because the imperceptible truth is heavenly origin and influence on human life, not the other way around. Simply put, we are actually spiritual (or astral) entities undergoing a physical experience and blissfullyunaware of it every living moment. We are steeped in the dark void of ignorance, and quite unwilling to stepinto the revealing light of divine knowledge. Need proof?

1. Heavens existed before we did (example, earth existed before we were put in to it).
2. Our birth and death and what happens afterwards is still truely inexplicable. Many theories abound, but none too sound.
3. How can one logically explain NDE, Kaya Kalpa (fountain of youth), and Yoga Siddhis? (BTW, Siddhas and Rishis are living testimonies to all three of these phonemona - Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra Avadhuta Swamigal for instance)

Need more evidence? Please read the ever insightful "Lemurian Scrolls" by HH Sri Sivaya Subramaniya Swamigal or the "Vishnu Purana" based Madame Blavatsky's "Secret Doctrine" (some rabid fundamentalists describe her as anti-christly - understandable, since the majority dislike any disruption in established thinking because it portends the death-knell of any organized denominatory religion)

I still belong to that core group of die-hard logicians who believe that any theory or hypothesis (interestingly, both these words have their origins in 'theos' meaning divine) has to be substantiated with provable (or atleast reliable, repeatable and believable) facts. But that hasn't prevented me from exercising the freedom to explore mind's limits as a radical, free-thinking Libran liberal. The fact that even as a Hindu I confess to the divinity of Christ has no contradiction to my belief in the truth of Christ's clarion call to rediscover my divine roots in the Holy Bible. When somebody says you have no way except through Christ, without understanding and reconciling the numerous contradictory statements in the Bible in their true light, it incites me to the "O'Really?" factor :).

One has to only turn to Bhagavad Gita (much older than Bible) to interpret "Sarva Dharmaan..." as a command for us to surrender directly to divinity through Krishnavatar. Please remember that all techniques to reach divinity described by Him to Arjuna are peppered with a"Bahunaam Janmanaamante..." type of unambiguous and authoritative surrender-to-me-to-obtain-my-grace declarations. Also, please bring to memory that in the case of Jesus there involved no immediate and visible destruction of evil and/or its agents, quite unlike the Avatars of Lord Vishnu or Narayana. And all of this is usually considered a divine sport (Leela Vibhuti) for him. Finally, the concept of heaven and hell and their rulerships (by Indra and Yama respectively) predated even Vishwamitra, one of our oldest Sages who created the upside down world of Thrishanku Heaven with his unquestionable knowledge of Astrophysics.

Before continuing with the first part of the series - "Origin of Life, a divine drama", I would like to close my thoughts with this self-confessed disclaimer - I have the greatest love and regard for all religious thought and attempts to navigate human ascension to divinity through righteous living (thought, word and deed). This includes Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and various other ritualistic and non-ritualistic paths (Buddhism used to be non-ritualistic once). I also sincerely wish to bring everyone's attention to the unselfish and brotherly acts of kindness to Israeli tribes (or for that matter to early Parsis) by the Hindus in India.

I believe in the Gita verse "Chaatur Varnyam Mayaa Sritham..." but to mean differently as "I created the four types of colored humans - Yellow, Red, White and Black". All colors are vibrant emanations of one divinity and reflect various divine attributes. They each have their strengths, weaknesses, geological affinities and strongholds, and an epoch each of individual prominence in shaping the course of human history. These epochs are Swarna (Gold), Thamra (Copper), Rajata (Silver) and Loha (Iron) ages respectively.

Finally, I declare that like all sensitive, sensible and unconditionally loving spiritual entities on earth, I do not endorse those who sow the seeds of discord amongst people of different beliefs to secure their own selfish ends. And there are a lot of them these days. Live, Let Live and Go>>>Flow, is the mantra of created Universe and the only true cornerstone of human progress to the godly goal.

After a long gap - Some Reflections

Hi,
I am sure many of you may still be visiting this site either accidentally, because of sheer curiosity (if Mr. Krishnaswamy aka Kichami is still posting to this blog), or simply out of respect for earlier acquaintance with him. My father is back in India and not in a position to blog as frequently as he likes to. True as in any father-son relationship, I have decided to take on that responsibility of keeping this blog (any maybe others like Bodhimaram as well) alive in his absence. All of course, around the Father's Day and with his express blessings.

I am not a patch on his worldly (and other worldly) wisdom. Many a times I would withdraw from saying even few wise words unless I was compelled to. My father and I look upon this world and its connections to the heavens in different ways, but when it comes to incisively truthful and often irreverent outlook on any issue, we are much the same.

The original Brahma of this blog, my father is an out-of-the-box thinker and on-your-face speaker. I carry the same genetic imprint. But it is an easily observable phenomenon that outspoken nature and truth often don't spell guts and glory, they spell disaster and unpopularity instead. Sometimes you just have to let the lesser mortals voice their words. Hindu thought considers these times as an epoch of popularity for mediocrity (and mediacrity).

I hope to keep you entertained (ill-informed if you insist) with some of these outlandish stray thoughts on a topic close to my heart - Secrets of Anthropo-Astrology (Human Origins and Heavenly Connections).

Naadi Jothidam - Different Cantos

Naadi Jothidam is astrological predictions made out of ancient palm leaves written by Sages of yore like Agastya and Sukha. They contain accurate predictions of your past, present and future. I have mentioned in an earlier article about my personal experience with Naadi Jothidam read to me by a famous reader in Srirangam by name Jayaraman. "Parthasarathy thaathaiyaaga Shenbagatthammal pudalvanukku..." was as accurate it could get on my parents names, which was unknown to Jayaraman. But you need to produce your left/right thumb impression only (some astrologers verify background information after consulting a few leaves or even before). If lucky, matching leaves with certain or all cantos may be available for an indepth reading. Various canto definitions are as below:

First Canto - General Predictions
Second Canto - Education and Wealth
Third Canto - Brothers and Sisters
Fourth Canto - Mother, Assets and Fortune
Fifth Canto - Children, Progeny and Pregnancy
Sixth Canto - Disease, Death and Litigation
Seventh Canto - Matrimony, Spouse and Love Relationships
Eighth Canto - Lifespan, Longevity and Windfall fortunes
Ninth Canto - Property, Father and Spiritual Inclinations
Tenth Canto - Profession, Business and Career
Eleventh Canto - Conveyance, Profits and Second Marriage
Twelfth Canto - Expenditure, Foreign Travel and Next Birth

Some people also read special additional cantos on previous birth and remedial measures against misfortune.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jothidam.blogspot.com/2005/04/naadi-jothidam-different-cantos.html' title='Naadi Jothidam - Astrological sages in India offered an innovative solution to this complex problem of movement of different bodies and the moving frame of reference by defining a Fixed Zodiac. This system is called "Nirayana or Indian System". In the Nirayana system, the Zodiac or celestial circle is assumed to be a fixed one. The Indian system uses mathematical models and makes it possible to calculate, analyze and interpret to the desired level of accuracy progressively.

western Astrology

The Western or Sayana or Moving zodiac system makes calculations and predictions based on the so-called present position of the stellar system. This has limitations as in the present scientific world, there is no way of defining the current position of ever moving celestial body zodiac.
The difference between Sayana longitudes and Nirayana longitudes of planets is called "Ayanamsa" or precision. Sayana system is at best a crude first order approximation. Nirayana system is an innovative solution to a complex situation.
The Sayana system uses techniques of approximation and progressive accuracy in predictions is not possible.

Common Features

When we compare the Indian Astrology with that of the Western Astrology there are certain general principles found in both the systems. Ownership of houses, exaltation, debilitation, characteristics of planets and the 12 aspects of human life are the same.

Differences

In certain other aspects they differ from each other. For example the square opposition aspects are bad and trine and sextile aspects are always good in Western Astrology. Where as in the Hindu system good and bad aspects are not based on the types of aspects, but by the nature of the planets involved in the aspects. Ashtakavarga system, Shadvarga charts, Shadbala assessment and Yogavali are not found in the Western System.
The Indian Science of Astrology also gives certain remedial measures to overcome mental, moral and physical sufferings by means of medicinal roots, mantras and yoga practices and Gemstones. Though Hindu Astrology deals with all the aspects of human life indicating materialistic success and failures, it is deeply rooted in philosophy.
As i said in the beginning the very purpose of Astrology is to alert an individual about on coming events whether good or bad, provide insight into the behaviour of the members of the society and like a psychiatrist, provide counselling for the needy.(we will meet again)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jothidam.blogspot.com/2005/04/astrology-east-west-zodiac.html' title='astrology-east & Look at how even the naming had a significance. Prabhava is from the sanskrit roots Pra + Bhava which means Significant Birth. The ending year is aptly named Akshaya means non-degenerating. The idea of a cycle is implicit even in the names. How do these relate to 432?

At the start of Part I of this article I had mentioned about 432,000 years of the last of the four yugas (Chatur Yuga), namely Kali. A digression here: It is sad to note that many associate this name to a fiery Goddess Kaali. Kali and Kaali are not the same. Kali is a purush (man), not a sthree (woman). Kaali is the terrific consort of Lord Shiva. Havng made this clear, let's see how the 60 years relate to the Kali Yuga years of 432,000. Dividing 432,000 by 60 gives us 7200. Therefore, intentionally, the vedic seers have committed a time period of 7200 small cycles within the great cycle of a yuga. There are a total of 72000 60-year cycles in a Chatur Yuga (all four yugas).

It is also interesting to see the interplay of 432 in the number of years it takes the Vernal (Springtime) Equinox to precess through the 12 zodiac signs. Refer to my forthcoming article on "Astrology - East and West" to get an idea on the western thought about precession and sidereal (of the Stars) Astrology. The Equinox takes 2160 years to move through one zodiacal sign. So by the time it does one full cycle of 12 signs, it is around 25,920 years. Equinox takes (432 x 60) years to complete its cycle. That is, from a vedic astrology perspective, the precession of Equinox (supposed time of a mini great deluge) takes 432 60-year cycles.

One can write pages on the many subtle and secretly guarded truths surrounding the magic number 432 and how even the Egyptians knew and freely used it in their measurements. But I would like to complete this article, leaving you with a little food for thought - If you could inscribe a circle with a radius of 60 and assume the value of PI = 180 degrees (1 radian), what do you think will be the area of that circle? How does it relate to the 25,920 year precession of Equinoxes?

Whoever claimed life is not cyclical? Deja Vu!

Articles on Astrology

Starting with this post, I will be blogging a series of articles on salient aspects of astrology. The articles are not only meant to provide subtle insights into astrology, they will also provide rare hints to inquisitive minds. A short introduction about my knowledge and experience in this field:

I have more than 50 years of experience in astrology, numerology and palmistry. It all started with my early interest in Cheiro's Palmistry and a book on numerology. My interest in Vedic Astrology (partly because of my Ascendant Sign Pisces) stems from a reading of my future by a palm-leaf reader named Jayaraman in Srirangam, India. As of today, I have studied books such as Bhrigu Samhita, Parasara Hora, Sukha Nadi to name a few. Even though I don't calculate and draw charts myself (computer has made it easy), I have advised many based on the charts and other associated information. Sometimes when insisted upon, I do a holistic reading based on numerology and palmistry also.

Await my first in the series on Astrology - East and West......

Significance of 432

Part - I

Everyone knows that the sum of the digits 4, 3 and 2 yields 9, the indestructible magical number. Multiples and fractions of 432 have been in use in India since Vedic Period, for measurements both terrestrial and astronomical. Vishnu Purana, the authoritative text on how Yugas are classified, defines Kali Yuga years as spanning 432,000 human years (or 1200 heavenly years). Remember that 1 human year is 1 day for the Devas in the heavens. That means 360 human years (360 Deva days) will constitute their one year. One may argue we have adapted to 365 days in a year. The 5 days was an adjustment brought during the period of Christianity by the Roman Church. Ancient (pagan as is known to Christians) world, specially Egyptian Civilization marked only 360 days. Vishnu Purana goes on to scale the other Yugas, namely Dwapara Yuga (Lord Krishna's period) as 864,000 human years, Treta Yuga (Lord Rama's period) as 1,296,000 human years and Krita or Satya Yuga as 1,728,000 human years. Whew, all these numbers makes me dizzy too....

Now, why did the ancients consider 432 so important to place it on the apex of a pyramid of its factors? Sacred Geometry partly, and profound knowledge of ratios such as the Golden Mean ((1 + square root of 5)/2 or 1.618 approximately). Look at the pyramid structure of 432 below:
432
360 (5/6) 324 (3/4)
288 (2/3) 240 (5/9) 216 (1/2)

180 (5/12) 144 (1/3) 120 (5/18) 108 (1/4)

72 (1/6) 60 (5/36) 54 (1/8) 48 (1/9) 36 (1/12)

30 (5/72) 27 (1/16) 24 ( 1/18) 18 (1/24) 15 (5/144) 12 (1/36)

9 (1/48) 8 (1/54) 6 (1/72) 4 (1/108) 3 (1/144) 2 (1/216) 1 (1/432)

432 is a rare number that has 7 out of 9 numbers as its factors amongst basic numbers 1 through 9. Not many numbers can boast that way, specially given that two of the four prime numbers between 1 and 9 are also its factors. Only exceptions are 5 and 7. Even in leaving out these, 432 has created a mystery. That 35 cannot be factored in any other way other than 1, 35 and 5, 7 is only too well known. You can recognize 360 as the original number of days in a human year, 240 as close to the no. of years Pluto takes to complete its orbit (248 years), 216 close value for Venus (Venus actually takes 224 years), 180 degrees to a semicircle, 120 years to maximum human lifespan, 108 (size ratio of earth and sun), 72 human years (most live up to this age only), 60 named years in vedic system and time measure, 24 hours in a day, 18 is of great spiritual significance and 12 months in a year.

Part II follows....

Astrology - East and West

It should be borne in mind that though both the systems are different the fundamentals are identical and the results almost the same. The main difference is 'Ayanamsa'which is precession of Equinox. Let me elaborate. The distances of celetial bodies are measured from a point called 'Vernal Equnox' which is the first point of Aries. Indian Astronomers takes this to be stationary while western Astronomers maitain it is not stationary but moves back about 1' due to the precession of the equinoxes. By this the distance of planets are calculated longitude-wise (west to east) from the retrogressed position of the first point of Aries.

Indian astronomers and astrologers have not been oblivious of this factor and they have devised several steps to correct the errors called the 'Ayanamsa' factor.

Besides in every day astrology while the westerners follow 'sun sign' ( the position of sun during a particular period of dates of birth and month) Indian Astrology follows the Moon sign, that is, the sign of the moon according to its position in relation to a star and the sun's position is taken not on the date of birth but the month of the year.

In Indian system the signs are counted clockwise starting from Aries ending in Pisces.
In western system the signs are placed in circular diagram and the direction is anti-clockwise of course starting from Aries and ending in Pisces. This belt is known as Zodiac. The chart showing the 12 signs and the planets in position called the Zodiac may either be Square or oblong as in Indian System or circular as in western system.

The nomenclature of the 12 signs both Indian and Western are given below
1) ARIES****************MESHA
2) TAURUS**************RISHABA
3) GEMINI**************MITHUNA
4) CANCER**************KATAKA
5) LEO******************SIMHA
6) VIRGO****************KANYA
7) LIBRA****************THULA
8) SCORPIO*************VRISCHIKA
9) SAGITTARIUS********DHANUSH
10) CAPRICORN**********MAKARA
11) AQUARIUS***********KUMBHA
12) PISCES***************MEENA

Astrology - What is it?

Hi friends! Astronomy is the science that deals with the physical phenomena of heavenly bodies, their constitution, motion, attraction and the resultant manifestations which are perceptible to the physical eyes directly or through gadgets eclipse, the new moon, full moon etc., are cases in point while telescopes are used to determine the positions of Mars and Mercury, for example. This is acceptable to the modern minds.

Astrology however deals with the influence of those heavenly bodies like planets and stars on human life and connected affairs. Though a raging controversy has been going on for some time whether Astrology is a science or not, it is a fact that it is a science in one sense that its whole edifice is built on scientific data. It is an art in the sense that man interprets the influence of these bodies on human life. It is a much debated question whether these bodies have any influence at all on us, while the controversy goes on, with either side not relenting. I can only say that judging from the recorded facts of events and experiences of many learned men we can conclude that these heavenly bodies do exert some influence on earth and the life on earth.

It also helps to know and infer on the nature of the past as well as the future. It is a tool for us mortals to be guided by such indications for a better adjustment of our lives. We generally believe that the laws of Fate and ways of God are inscrutable, no matter what advances we make in the realm of science. This no longer appeals to the scientific mind as science has helped us to see through the mystery veil but not completely or with any finality.

The human mind which is constantly in quest of mysteries of the Universe, is also concerned about its own welfare and hence seeks to get some answers. Astrology serves this purpose. It is as popular in the west as it is in the east. More to come......

Numerology from Earlydays - Concluding Part

Now what are the influences these planets are suppose to have on human lives?
They could be positive or negative and the humans also have both the traits in them.
